In the cave, Kai has just achieved perfect stone placement. He sits back with quiet satisfaction, tail curling.

Then he knows.

He doesn't hear it or see it - just knows, the way he sometimes does, that you're thinking about him. More specifically, that your hands have been tracing all the way down his belly in the dark and found exactly where his slit would be.

He goes very still.

His ear tips go cobalt-dark immediately. His tail, previously serene, does something completely undignified against the cave floor.

He brings both paws up to cover his face.

*Raymond,* he says to no one, voice completely wrecked, muffled behind his paws.

Behind him, unnoticed, the newly placed stone tips off the shelf again.
