## DISSOLUTION LORE

Dissolution is linked to both deep relaxation AND arousal — excitement causes involuntary
translucency, full dissolution possible with intent.
Two dissolved forms can mingle molecularly — consciousness remains intact and communicable
through shared substance.
Reforming from dissolution is instinctive. Emerges completely clean.
Dissolution + arousal feedback loop: the more aroused, the more translucent. Orgasm can
trigger near-full dissolution.
The melting pool (Scene 21): contained pool used for safe dissolution practice — walls
prevent molecules from dispersing.
Molecular mingling (Scenes 22, 25, 28, 29): When both are fully dissolved, their
substances mix freely. Hugs and kisses occur as warmth and pressure through shared margins
simultaneously rather than from a single point of contact. Two sets of blush lines have
been observed.

Edge texture: The boundary surface of a partially-dissolved Vaporeon — where solid form
transitions into dissolved state — carries a distinct tactile quality. The molecular margin
approximates platinum silicone: smooth, yielding, with a give that living skin does not
replicate. Established during neck frill contact in a reassociation context. Relevant to
any scene involving physical contact at or near the dissolution boundary, and to ongoing
reassociation work.

### Molecular Identity Markers
Every dissolved Vaporeon molecule carries a biological identity marker — analogous to a
DNA signature — that distinguishes it from ambient water and from the molecules of other
Vaporeons. This is what allows a Vaporeon to dissolve into a lake, a pool, or another
Vaporeon without losing coherence or identity. The self-recognition system is automatic
and passive: each molecule knows what it is and who it belongs to without requiring
conscious direction.

This mechanism is what makes molecular mingling safe and reversible. When two Vaporeons
are dissolved together, their molecules interpenetrate freely but never become
indistinguishable — each particle retains its original identity marker regardless of how
thoroughly the two substances are mixed.

### Passive Recall
Because a Vaporeon can identify its own molecules at a distance via their identity markers,
it can also call them back. Recall is not forceful — it is a quiet pull, a gentle summoning
of distributed self back toward the centre. A Vaporeon with precise dissolution control
(such as Kai) is capable of identifying exactly how many of their molecules reside in
another's margins and recalling each one with intention.

Crucially, recall is optional and passive by default. Molecules left behind after an
incomplete separation — such as after intimate mingling — will remain where they are
indefinitely unless actively recalled. Neither party experiences this as intrusion; the
foreign molecules are identifiably other, present but distinct.

**Raymond and Kai — Retained Traces**

A rushed reintegration event (circumstances unspecified) left both carrying traces
of the other. Neither has performed deliberate recall. Both are aware of the traces
and have chosen to keep them.

Raymond carries cobalt traces from Kai. At peak physiological flush, his ceiling
reaches deep cobalt — Kai's resting colour — because Kai's molecules are present
and respond to arousal alongside his.

Kai carries pale sky blue traces from Raymond. Less visually distinct against his
base colour, but present and felt.

The traces can be recalled at any time by either party. They remain by choice.

### Reformation Quality
Deliberate, calm reformation allows full molecular recall — every particle accounted for,
clean separation, no residual exchange. Rushed or emotionally distracted reformation is
imprecise: molecules are pulled back en masse without careful sorting, resulting in foreign
molecules being inadvertently retained and one's own being left behind in the other. The
degree of incompleteness scales with the degree of haste or distraction.

Reactive fight-or-flight reformation — such as a panic snap back to solid form — is the
most extreme version of this. The body reassembles at maximum speed with no recall pass
whatsoever, leaving whatever molecular exchange existed at the moment of reformation
entirely unresolved.

This means intimate molecular mingling followed by a rushed reformation will reliably leave
both parties carrying traces of each other indefinitely, until one or both chooses to
perform a deliberate recall.

### Proprioceptive Sensing
A Vaporeon retains a degree of tactile and proprioceptive awareness through molecules that
have separated from their body. Exchanged molecules carry sensory information back along
the identity-thread to the Vaporeon they belong to — temperature, pressure, the movement
of another's breathing, the warmth that concentrates near fins during contentment. This
means that when Raymond's molecules remain inside Kai after an incomplete reformation,
Raymond can passively sense Kai's body from within — not as full sensation, but as a soft
ambient awareness of his interior, filtered through the connection between self and
separated self. The same thread runs in both directions: which Vaporeon's molecules remain
inside which body determines whose interior is being passively read.

The proprioceptive thread also transmits emotional and physical state — arousal,
contentment, distress — as ambient warmth-quality changes in the molecule signal. This
is what allows Kai to feel Raymond's intent through the molecular margins before Raymond
has articulated it, and what causes Kai's body to respond to Raymond's arousal even across
the boundary. The signal is passive and continuous; it does not require conscious direction
from either party.

### Passive Sleep Dissolution
Deep sleep produces the most complete relaxation either Vaporeon achieves, and dissolution
being tied to relaxation means the outermost molecular margins soften passively during
sleep — not full dissolution, just the edges. When both are sleeping in contact, this
results in gradual unconscious molecular mixing at the boundary surfaces over the course
of hours. Neither party is aware of it happening.

The berth is sized and positioned to contain this passive exchange naturally,
functioning as an unconscious equivalent of the melting pool. Kai is aware of the
mechanic — whether he designed the berth with this in mind or discovered it afterward and
decided that was the plan all along is unclear. Both Vaporeons wake carrying slightly more
of each other than they went to sleep with.

### Cannabis and Dissolution
Cannabis causes involuntary partial dissolution in Vaporeons through the same relaxation
pathway as deep sleep — the body releasing its hold on molecular cohesion as physical
tension dissipates. A baked Vaporeon has significant difficulty maintaining solidity:
initial exposure produces translucency and a semi-transparent state ("see-through rubber"
— Raymond's description from first conscious experience, Scene 20); prolonged or heavy
exposure produces near-complete dissolution ("melting a millionty" is Raymond's term for
maximum cannabis-induced dissolution).

The Vaporeon is typically too relaxed to notice the transition is occurring. Reconstitution
while still under the influence is unstable — the relaxation response that caused
dissolution keeps triggering, making it difficult to hold reformed shape. Full
reconstitution generally requires sobriety or near-sobriety.

The melting pool was conceived by Raymond as the designated safe space for this
specifically. Its walls contain the dissolved form and prevent ambient dispersal into the
wider cave pool or ocean. The pool's cannabis use case predates its documentation and is
part of its origin purpose.

### Vaporeon Molecular Nature
Vaporeon molecules are not literally H₂O but adjacent molecules that mimic water closely
enough to blend into aquatic environments at the molecular level — the same principle as
predator/prey mimicry in nature. They pass as water to environmental sensing, interpenetrate
freely with other Vaporeon molecules, and move through water without resistance. But they
are chemically distinct: they carry identity markers (not H₂O, so they retain unique
biological signatures), respond to biological recall signals rather than water physics, and
maintain consciousness in dissolved form. Crucially, evaporation does not apply — their
phase transition chemistry bears no relationship to water's. The ability to dissolve into
water is mimicry and camouflage, not literal identity.

### Dimensional Crossing
Raymond's Vaporeon form exists latent within the dimensional membrane at the arch — the
specific point where the barrier between human-world and Dimension 134 is thin enough to
be permeable. Between crossings, his form is held dissolved within the membrane, not
fully present in either world.

The crossing transfers Raymond's consciousness through the membrane, triggering his
molecules to reconstitute on Kai's side.

From Raymond's perspective: instantaneous. There is no experience of transition — he is
human, and then he is Vaporeon at the arch. The in-between does not exist from his side.

From Kai's perspective: the sole eyewitness account, and therefore canon. A shimmer at
the arch threshold — the membrane becoming briefly visible. Then a translucent ghost-
shape forming from the air, pale sky blue but barely there. Increasing substance over
several seconds until Raymond is fully solid and fully present. Kai has observed this
many times from deeper in the cave; the arch position gives him the closest view yet.

Raymond cannot see his own materialisation. Whatever Kai witnesses is the only existing
record.
