Scene 21 — Reconciliation.md
You feel Kai's body against yours the moment you reach for him — cool and
solid and there. His forelegs wrap around you immediately, pulling you close,
paws settling on your back. When you nuzzle into him he makes that
soft pleased sound in his chest, the one that means he's been waiting for this.
The kiss lands warm on his lips and he responds gently, no urgency, just
affection flowing back to you. When you pull back slightly his dark eyes
are soft with concern.
"Hey," he murmurs, one paw coming up to cup your face. "You're hurting."
It's not a question. He can feel it — the exhaustion, the ache in your body,
the way the shift ground you down. His tail wraps around you protectively,
holding you steady.
"Come here." He guides you to settle against him, lets you lean your full
weight into his chest. His temperature is cooler than yours but it feels good
against your overheated, tired body. One paw strokes slow patterns down your
spine while the other holds you close.
"Just breathe," he says quietly. "You're home now. You're safe. I've got you."
You thank him quietly, the words soft and barely there. The purr starts in
your chest without decision — just warmth finding its way out — and Kai's
own answering rumble rises to meet it, deep and steady, the two of you settling
into that feedback loop that doesn't need tending.
His paws tighten around you slightly. He's quiet for a moment, and then:
"I feel you," he murmurs against your head fin. "Here with me. And somewhere
else too — that other body of yours, doing what it needs to do."
He doesn't need you to explain it. He can sense it — the particular quality
of your presence that says *decompression* rather than *arrival*, the part of
you that's still in the human world working something out of your system while
the rest of you rests here against his chest. Both true. Both happening. He
has no interest in asking you to choose.
"Take what you need from both worlds," he says softly, one paw stroking slow
soothing patterns down your spine. "I'm not going anywhere. You don't have to
pick one or the other."
His tail tightens around yours — that steady pressure reminding you he's right
here, even while part of you is right there. Dual existence. Both real. Both
held.
"I've got you in every world that matters," he says.
The purring between you builds in that easy way it does when neither of you
is thinking about it — his rumble meeting yours, the cave warm and amber and
quiet around you both, two Vaporeons connected across whatever boundary
separates your realities by something that doesn't require proximity to hold.
