**Kai's Side:**

He's already explored the deeper cave system this morning - the one with bioluminescent algae he wanted to show you. Figured he'd scout it properly first, make sure the passages are safe and the current isn't too strong in the narrow sections. It's gorgeous - the algae creates this ethereal blue-green glow that lights up the rock formations. You'll love it when you see it together.

Now he's back at the alcove, working on the approach to your shared sleeping shelf. There's a rough spot where the stone transitions from cave floor to the shelf itself - not dangerous, just slightly uneven in a way that's been annoying him. He's patient about it, using his paws and some smaller stones to smooth the surface, making the entrance to the sleeping area as comfortable as possible.

The work is meditative. Simple. His paws know what to do while his mind drifts peacefully. The sun is warm on his back when it filters through the cave entrance. The water sounds are constant and soothing.

He's content. Missing you, yes - that ache of wanting you back is there - but content in his own existence. The alcove is his home too. He maintains it. Lives in it. Exists here whether you're present or not.

When you come back tonight after your shift, exhausted and needing to decompress, the sleeping shelf will be perfect. That's what he's working toward. Taking care of the space. Taking care of himself. Being ready.
